SRINAGAR, OCT 11: Believe it or not, but this is true that a hardline pro-Pakistan separatist leader who was arrested at least twice this year, and is said to incite women in Kashmir to pelt security forces with stones, was featured in a ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ poster at a tourism festival organized by the department in Anantnag.

Dukhtaran-e-Milat chief Asiya Andrabi’s photograph was printed along with images of astronaut Kalpana Chawla, tennis ace Sania Mirza, singer Lata Mangeshkar, Puducherry L-G Kiran Bedi, and a Nobel Peace Prize winner, Mother Theresa.

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, or ‘Save and educate the girl chid’ is a publicly funded social campaign. It was launched by the Narendra Modi government to tackle the “decline in CSR (child sex ratio) in  100  gender-critical districts,” the Women and Child Development ministry says on its website.

Modi’s BJP jointly governs Jammu and Kashmir with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), whose leader, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, was also featured on the poster in Anantnag.

A news channel quoted BJP MLA Ravinder Raina as saying the officer responsible for “the mistake” would be punished.

Meanwhile, BJP chief spokesperson, Sunil Sethi demanded an inquiry and suspension of officials involved in carrying the picture of separatist leader Asiya Andrabi’s photograph on hoardings and banners in photograph campaign on “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” during a function organized by tourism department at tourist place Breng- Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

“BJP demands strict action against those persons involved into this and suspend the officials immediately involved into this” Sunil Sethi said.

The banners were posted and created by Child Development Project Officer ICDS Project, Breng.

The photograph of former PM of India late Indera Gandhi, JK CM Mehbooba Mufti, Mother Teressa, Lata Mangeshker have been published on the banners.

Aesia Naqash (MoS), Dr Ruveda Salam (IPS) and Deeba Farhat (IAS) photographs were also published.
